Have you ever walked along the NY streets and wondered if I could get a sneak peek into the beautiful but restricted buildings. Atleast this how I feel everytime I pass some beautiful theater or event space in NY. Well, OHNY is just about that. Open House NY, as the name suggests is on a mission to make NY landmarks publicly accessible and this year I got a chance to help them with their mission.
I came across OHNY talk invite about Public art in NY and I was mesmerized to say the least. One thing I loved the most was Sandra Bloodworth(former Director of MTA Art & Design) talk on art installation in all the NY subways. That day I decided to be a part of the organization and explore the stories behind the city’s hidden and not-so-hidden gems.
As a volunteer with Open House New York, I get to introduce people to one of the architectural beauty of Brooklyn called Carroll Hall. It’s a beautiful event space surrounded by amazing graffiti. It was my first time volunteering with OHNY so, I didn’t have much experience in handling crowd and managing space.
